STAIN RESISTANT ADDITIVE WATER BASED
GSRC 220

Aqueous stain-resistance additive for improving water repellency, oil repellency, stain resistance and stain release in coatings, sealers and construction materials.

AQUEOUS PUD 15% ACTIVE INDOOR & OUTDOOR

Build stain release into water-based surfaces.

GSRC 220 is an aqueous fluorinated polyurethane dispersion designed to provide stain resistance and release characteristics to coating formulations, sealers and construction materials. It can be incorporated into compatible acrylic and urethane systems for indoor and outdoor use.

Its surface-modifying polymer helps cured materials repel water and oil, reducing the tendency of stains to wet, penetrate and anchor to the surface.

Protection without changing the application platform.
GSRC 220 allows formulators to enhance existing aqueous coatings and construction products with relatively small formulation changes.

Active Solids 15%
Viscosity <30 cP
Density 1.1 g/mL
Flash Point >93.3°C
Repel the stain before it penetrates.
Final stain resistance depends on binder, dose, cure, film integrity, substrate and exposure.
1 · ADD

Incorporate in Water

Dilute with water or water-miscible solvent under agitation to the required solids.

2 · FORM

Build the Film

Apply the compatible coating, sealer or construction formulation uniformly.

3 · ORIENT

Modify the Surface

The fluorinated PUD contributes low-energy functionality during film formation.

4 · RELEASE

Resist & Clean

Water, oil and staining liquids wet the surface less strongly and release more readily.

A cleaner surface that lasts longer.
Benefits should be confirmed after full cure using the actual stain and cleaning method.
01

Water Repellency

Raises water contact angle and reduces wetting of compatible cured surfaces.

02

Oil Repellency

Improves resistance to low-surface-tension oily stains and hydrocarbon-based soils.

03

Stain Resistance

Helps prevent stains from spreading and penetrating the coating or sealer.

04

Stain Release

Supports easier cleaning and removal of deposits from the treated surface.

05

Aqueous Compatibility

Compatible with water and water-miscible solvents for broad water-based use.

06

Indoor & Outdoor Use

Suitable for evaluation in both interior and exterior coating applications.

Higher contact angles. Lower stain affinity.
Contact angles below reproduce source testing at 1.0% active GSRC 220 solids.

Advancing Water Contact Angle

Conceptual thermal pathway development chart

Higher advancing water contact angle indicates improved water repellency.

Advancing Hexadecane Contact Angle

Qualitative cooling filler positioning comparison

Higher hexadecane contact angle indicates improved repellency to oily, low-surface-tension liquids.

Less scaling through 50 freeze-thaw cycles.
Source ASTM C 672 testing used 4% calcium chloride on concrete coated with 25% acrylic emulsion plus 3% GSRC 220 solids.

Average Visual Scaling Rating

Conceptual thermal pathway development chart

Average ratings: uncoated 0.5, 0.7, 1.0, 2.0, 2.0; coated 0.0, 0.0, 0.0, 0.3, 0.3 at 10-50 cycles.

Cumulative Mass Loss at 50 Cycles

Qualitative cooling filler positioning comparison

Average source values after 50 cycles; coated replicates were 0.00, 0.01 and 0.00 lb/ft².

Standards note: Addition of GSRC 220 changes the formulation. Any product claiming ASTM C 309 or ASTM C 1315 performance must be re-tested after modification.

Choose the active level, then calculate product.
GSRC 220 contains 15% active solids. Product addition is therefore higher than the desired active level.
COMMON COATING RANGE
0.2-1.0%

Recommended active solids for coatings and sealers.

Broader source range: 0.2-3.0% active solids for acrylic and urethane coating evaluation.

Formulation positioning

  1. Coatings & Sealers — Start within 0.2-1.0% active solids.
  2. Broad Formulation Screen — Source permits 0.2-3.0% active solids depending on system.
  3. Concrete Cure & Seal — Source test used approximately 3% GSRC 220 solids with 25% acrylic-emulsion solids.
  4. Cured Concrete Top Treatment — Apply in diluted form at 3-5% solids for stain resistance and release.
Product calculation note: GSRC 220 contains 15% active solids. Product addition is therefore higher than the desired active level.
Easy aqueous incorporation—with clear boundaries.
Compatibility and performance must be confirmed in every base formulation.

Dilution

Add water or water-miscible solvents to concentrated GSRC 220 under agitation.

Surfactants

Surfactants may be added, although the source states they are normally not required.

Defoamers

Defoamers may be used if the complete coating or construction system requires foam control.

Nonpolar Incompatibility

Not compatible with xylene, mineral spirits or other nonpolar hydrocarbons.

Cure Validation

Allow full cure before evaluating stains, water/oil contact angles and cleaning durability.

Freeze-Thaw Handling

Limited freezing and thawing can be tolerated, but repeated cycles should be avoided.

Quick Formulation
Answers

Is GSRC 220 intended only for paints?
No. It can be used in compatible coatings, sealers, concrete cure-and-seal products, caulks, stucco, putties, wood sealers and other polymeric products.
What is the difference between product dosage and active-solids dosage?
GSRC 220 contains 15% active solids. For example, 1.0% active solids requires approximately 6.67% GSRC 220 product, before formulation balancing.
Can it be used with mineral spirits?
No. The source specifically states incompatibility with xylene, mineral spirits and other nonpolar hydrocarbons.
Does it guarantee stain resistance in every coating?
No. Binder, cure, film thickness, surface condition and stain type all matter. Each formulation must be tested for compatibility and end-use performance.
