DIRT PICK-UP RESISTANCE ADDITIVE
WATER BASED
FC 1500

Anionic fluoroacrylic additive designed to reduce dirt adhesion and preserve the clean appearance of exterior water-based paints and compatible aqueous coatings.

FLUOROACRYLIC ANIONIC 15% ACTIVE · IPA/WATER

Help exterior paint stay cleaner for longer.

Fluorodyne FC 1500 is a water-based dirt pick-up resistance additive based on anionic fluoroacrylic chemistry. It is supplied at 15% active content in an IPA/water carrier for incorporation into compatible aqueous paints and coatings.

The additive is intended to modify the cured coating surface so airborne dust, soot and oily atmospheric contamination adhere less strongly. The result can be a cleaner facade appearance and easier release of deposited dirt during rain or washing.

Dirt pick-up is a surface problem.
Soft films, residual surfactants, tack, low glass-transition temperature and atmospheric pollution can combine to make an exterior wall progressively darker—especially below ledges and in rain-run paths.

Untreated exterior paint

Dirt concentrates below the window ledge, follows rain-water paths and anchors within the textured coating surface.

FC 1500-modified paint

Reduced surface affinity helps limit particle adhesion and allows deposited dirt to release more readily.

Dust meets a receptive coating surface.
Dirt resistance requires balanced film hardness, hydrophobicity, surface mobility and weathering performance.
1 · EXPOSURE

Particles Arrive

Wind carries mineral dust, soot, organic aerosols and traffic pollution to the wall.

2 · CONTACT

Dirt Finds Soft Areas

Particles concentrate on tacky regions, texture valleys, ledges and water-run paths.

3 · ANCHOR

Contamination Builds

Moisture and oily matter strengthen adhesion and create visible grey streaking.

4 · MODIFY

FC 1500 Reduces Affinity

Fluoroacrylic surface modification helps limit adhesion and improve dirt release.

Cleaner coatings without abandoning water-based technology.
Benefits must be verified after full cure and accelerated or natural outdoor exposure.
01

Reduced Dirt Pick-Up

Helps decrease adhesion of airborne dust and atmospheric contamination.

02

Cleaner Facades

Supports longer retention of the coating's original colour and appearance.

03

Improved Dirt Release

Deposited soil may be removed more readily by rainfall or controlled washing.

04

Water-Based Delivery

Designed for incorporation into compatible aqueous paint and coating formulations.

05

Integral Protection

Added into the paint so dirt resistance becomes part of the cured coating film.

DOSAGE STATUS
OPTIMISE

Establish the lowest effective product level through controlled laboratory and outdoor-exposure trials.

Suggested screening route

  1. Prepare an untreated paint control.
  2. Create low, medium and high FC 1500 addition levels.
  3. Check viscosity, pH, foam, stability and application.
  4. Measure gloss, adhesion, water resistance and recoatability after full cure.
  5. Expose panels to accelerated dirt pick-up and natural exterior weathering.
  6. Wash or rinse panels and assess dirt release and colour retention.
  7. Select the lowest level that delivers durable improvement.
Anionic compatibility: Screen carefully with cationic additives, highly ionic pigment dispersions and other surface-active agents. The IPA/water carrier must also be included in VOC and formulation-balance calculations.
Prove performance beyond a clean laboratory panel.
Dirt pick-up resistance is best evaluated using both controlled comparative tests and real outdoor exposure.

Accelerated Dirt Pick-Up

Expose coated panels to a reproducible dust or carbon-black challenge and compare colour change.

Natural Exposure

Mount panels vertically and horizontally at the intended geographic exposure site.

Rain-Streak Evaluation

Inspect beneath ledges and water-run paths where dirt normally concentrates.

Dirt Release

Use a standard rinse or wash cycle and measure recovery of the original appearance.

Colour Difference

Record initial and exposed colour using ΔE measurements where equipment is available.

Film Durability

Confirm adhesion, flexibility, scrub, water uptake, UV resistance and exterior ageing.

Quick Formulation
Answers

What is dirt pick-up resistance?
It is the ability of a cured coating to resist adhesion and visible accumulation of airborne dust, soot, organic particles and atmospheric contaminants.
Where does dirt normally accumulate on an exterior wall?
Common concentration points include areas below window ledges, rain-water flow paths, sheltered zones, textured valleys and surfaces close to traffic or industrial pollution.
Is FC 1500 a surface-applied cleaner?
No. It is an integral paint additive intended to modify the cured coating's surface behaviour.
What dosage should be used?
No recommended dose was supplied. Establish a low-to-high addition ladder and select the lowest level that improves dirt resistance without compromising film properties.
