SEED THE HYDRATION
DENSIFY THE MATRIX

Colloidal silica supplies ultra-small, non-porous amorphous SiO₂ particles already dispersed in water. In cementitious systems, the particle surface provides high-area nucleation sites and can participate in secondary pozzolanic reaction with free calcium hydroxide.

Unlike dry silica powders that must first disperse, the supplied CS grades arrive as stabilized liquid dispersions engineered for rapid distribution through the mix or deep topical penetration into concrete pores.

HOW COLLOIDAL SILICA WORKS

The stabilized silica surface carries silanol functionality and presents a very high external area. In cementitious environments this influences nucleation, packing and secondary reaction.

01

Disperse instantly

Liquid-borne nanoparticles distribute through mix water without dry-powder deagglomeration.

02

Seed C-S-H

Nano-surfaces provide nucleation sites that accelerate early C-S-H formation.

03

Refine ITZ & pores

Ultra-fine particles occupy nano-voids and densify the paste / aggregate transition zone.

04

React with free lime

Silica can consume Ca(OH)₂ and contribute secondary C-S-H in suitable conditions.

Technical questions

FAQ

Practical questions for colloidal nano-silica
in construction applications.

What is the chemistry of these grades?
The supplied TDS defines the product as aqueous amorphous SiO₂ colloidal dispersions.
What is the difference between CS-20C and CS-30C?
CS-20C contains 20% ±1% SiO₂ with 8–12 nm particles and is positioned primarily for floor densification. CS-30C contains 30% ±1% SiO₂ with 12–18 nm particles and is positioned for RMC, precast, shotcrete, grout and UHPC.
What dosage is recommended in RMC?
The TDS gives 0.5–1.5% liquid BWOC for CS-30C.
What dosage is recommended in precast?
The supplied range is 1.0–2.5% liquid BWOC for CS-30C.
What dosage is recommended in UHPC?
The TDS gives 1.5–3.5% liquid BWOC and positions CS-30C for ITZ densification and target strengths above 120–150 MPa.
What dosage is recommended in wet-mix shotcrete?
The TDS gives 1.5–3.0% liquid BWOC for CS-30C.
How does colloidal silica affect early strength?
The TDS strength graph for CEM I 52.5 R at 20°C states +120% at 8 hours for 2.0% CS-30C versus control and labels 48 MPa at 24 hours.
How should batch water be corrected?
The TDS states CS-30C contains 70% water and CS-20C contains 80% water. Deduct the water contributed by the dispersion from total gauging water.
When should colloidal silica be added?
The supplied procedure recommends adding it alongside or immediately after PCE superplasticizer for rapid dispersion.
How should it be stored?
Store at +5°C to +35°C and protect strictly from freezing. The TDS warns that freezing can irreversibly collapse the electrostatic stabilization layer and produce unusable silica gel.
