Air is a formulation variable

REMOVE THE AIR
RECOVER THE DENSITY

The supplied TDS separates FOAMSTAB into four application-specific chemistries: a polyether for concrete, a transparent resin deaerator, an organosilicone emulsion for shotcrete and a powder antifoam for dry mortars and grouts.

Unwanted air can reduce mechanical density, create bugholes and pinholes, generate polishing haze and interfere with finished surface quality. Grade selection should follow the formulation matrix and processing route.
Foam-control mechanism

DESTABILIZE THE FILM.
RELEASE THE BUBBLE.

The TDS describes interfacial-tension rupture: FOAMSTAB molecules migrate to air-water or air-resin interfaces, displace stabilizing surfactant films and thin the bubble lamella until rupture.

Foam bubbles and foam-control mechanism

FOAM BUBBLES

Foam = Stabilized Air/Liquid Interfaces

Mixing energy, PCEs, cellulose ethers and resin viscosity can stabilize bubbles. FOAMSTAB disrupts the stabilizing film and promotes air release.

THREE AIR-CONTROL ACTIONS

Defoaming
Rapid collapse of existing visible macro-foam.

Antifoaming
Reduction of foam re-formation under continued shear and surfactant exposure.

Deaeration
Micro-bubbles coalesce and float out before concrete sets or resin gels.

Matrix-specific chemistry

Polyether, fluorosilicone/organic, organosilicone emulsion and powder-on-carrier technologies are used for different construction systems.

Technical questions

FAQ

Application guidance based on the supplied FOAMSTAB Construction TDS.

What is the difference between defoaming, antifoaming and deaeration?
Defoaming collapses foam already present; antifoaming limits foam re-formation; deaeration helps entrained micro-bubbles coalesce and leave viscous systems.
Which grade is intended for ready-mix and precast concrete?
FOAMSTAB C-100, a 100% active polyalkylene-glycol/polyether grade.
Which grade is intended for transparent epoxy or PU stone-resin systems?
FOAMSTAB EP-50. The TDS lists 100% optical clarity and zero haze/turbidity.
Which grade is intended for wet-mix shotcrete?
FOAMSTAB SC-80, a modified organosilicone emulsion designed for pipeline pumping head and accelerator compatibility.
Which grade is used in dry mortars and grouts?
FOAMSTAB P-25, a hydrocarbon/silicone powder carried on silica for dry blending.
What is the C-100 dosage for ready-mix or SCC?
The application table lists 0.05–0.15% BWOC; the broader grade specification gives 0.05–0.20% BWOC. Final dosage should be established by mix trials.
Can C-100 be incorporated into PCE concentrates?
Yes. The TDS states it can be blended directly into liquid PCE mother liquors without phase separation or oil slicking.
How is EP-50 used in stone-resin processing?
Incorporate it into Part A resin before hardener mixing. The TDS states deaeration completes within 60–120 seconds in vacuum-chamber mastic lines or hand-knife applications.
Why use P-25 in machine grouts?
The TDS positions it to limit plastic volume settlement and maximize effective bearing area, with an EBA target above 85%.
What storage conditions are specified?
Store between +5°C and +35°C in dry conditions; SC-80 should be protected strictly from frost.
