DUSTZEN®
STOCKPILE

Water-dilutable polymer-emulsion technology designed to form a flexible protective crust over open mineral piles—helping resist wind erosion, limit airborne fines and reduce valuable material loss.

Coal & Coke Ore & Minerals Aggregates Overburden
Protect Open Bulk Materials

Seal the surface while keeping the pile workable.

Open stockpiles are continuously exposed to wind, dry weather, handling and rainfall. DUSTZEN Stockpile wets the surface fines and develops a cohesive polymer network as water evaporates, creating a protective crust without converting the entire pile into a rigid mass.

Wind-Erosion Resistance

Helps prevent loose surface fines from becoming airborne.

Flexible Film Formation

Designed to tolerate normal settling and limited pile movement.

Reduced Material Loss

Helps retain valuable coal, ore, mineral and aggregate fines.

Targeted Surface Treatment

Concentrates treatment on the exposed outer layer of the pile.

The Stockpile Challenge

Every exposed surface can become a dust source.

Dry fines migrate under wind and handling. Conventional water spraying may provide only short wetting, while repeated oversaturation can create runoff and handling problems.

01 · WIND

Surface Erosion

Wind removes the lightest fraction first and spreads dust beyond the storage area.

02 · VALUE

Material Loss

Loss of fines can reduce saleable yield and change material consistency.

03 · WATER

Repeated Wetting

Plain water may evaporate rapidly and require frequent reapplication.

04 · COMPLIANCE

Off-Site Dust

Visible emissions can affect site housekeeping, neighbours and environmental performance.

How DUSTZEN Stockpile Works

Four stages from wetting to protective crust

01

Dilute

Prepare the selected concentration in clean water under gentle agitation.

02

Cover

Spray the complete exposed surface using overlapping passes and adequate reach.

03

Bind

The polymer distributes around loose fines and builds inter-particle cohesion.

04

Crust

As water evaporates, a flexible protective layer develops over the pile.

Application Strategy

Match treatment strength to pile duty.

The optimum concentration and application volume depend on material particle size, moisture, slope, porosity, wind exposure, rainfall and the required protection period.

1:20–100 DUSTZEN Stockpile : Water

Use the stronger end of the range for fine, dry material, severe wind exposure or longer protection. Higher dilution may suit short-duration control or maintenance coats. Finalise by a controlled site trial.

Active
Stockpile

For piles accessed frequently, apply targeted coats to exposed or newly formed surfaces and renew after material movement.

Seasonal
Storage

Apply a continuous crust over the final pile profile, including crest, slopes and wind-facing surfaces.

Long-Term /
High-Wind

Evaluate a stronger concentration, multiple light coats or increased coverage after confirming drainage and crust integrity.

Application Procedure

Build a continuous, inspectable surface crust.

Uniform coverage is more important than heavy local wetting. Treat every exposed face and minimise shadowed or inaccessible areas.

STEP 01

Profile the Pile

Stabilise the pile shape, reduce loose overhangs and identify high-wind faces.

STEP 02

Prepare Solution

Charge clean water first, add DUSTZEN Stockpile slowly and mix gently.

STEP 03

Spray in Passes

Use a cannon, boom or hose to apply overlapping passes from crest to toe.

STEP 04

Allow Drying

Permit film formation without disturbing the treated surface or causing runoff.

STEP 05

Inspect & Repair

Check for gaps, cracks, handling damage and weathered zones; spot-treat as needed.

Recommended Site-Trial Checks

  • Complete wetting of crest, slopes and toe
  • Crust continuity after drying
  • Resistance to wind and natural pile settling
  • Behaviour after rainfall and drying cycles
  • Runoff, drainage and ponding
  • Ease of reclaiming or breaking the treated surface
  • Time until spot repair or reapplication is needed

Confirm environmental suitability, downstream process compatibility and material quality requirements before full-scale adoption.

Technical FAQs

Common questions before a stockpile trial

Will the entire pile become solid? +
No. The product is intended to create a protective surface crust. Penetration and hardness depend on dilution, application volume and material porosity.
Can the treated material still be reclaimed? +
Yes, but reclaim behaviour must be confirmed during the site trial. Equipment normally breaks the treated surface when the pile is accessed.
Can it be applied with a mist cannon? +
Yes, provided the equipment can deliver the required concentration and uniform surface coverage without excessive drift.
When should the pile be recoated? +
Inspect after severe wind, rain, pile settlement or material handling. Repair damaged areas rather than automatically recoating intact sections.
