FLOWTHENE · Potassium Formate Heat Transfer Fluids

FLOWTHENE PF SERIES

Low-temperature, high-performance potassium formate/water heat-transfer fluids engineered for process cooling, refrigeration and closed-loop thermal service from −55°C to +218°C.

Five Standard Grades Pre-Mixed & Ready to Use Inhibited Multi-Metal Protection

Move heat efficiently - without relying on glycol.

FLOWTHENE PF Series is a family of pre-mixed potassium formate/water heat-transfer fluids engineered for cold protection, heat transport and corrosion-controlled circulation. Five standard concentrations allow engineers to match fluid performance to the required cold-end set point.

Higher potassium-formate loading extends low-temperature protection but also increases cold-end viscosity and density. FLOWTHENE grade selection therefore balances freeze protection, pumpability, heat capacity, thermal conductivity and system pressure.

Lowest Protection Below −55°C
Closed-Loop Limit Up to +218°C
Standard Grades PF-10 to PF-50
Open-System Grade PF-50 Only

Product FAQ

Quick engineering
answers.

Key questions regarding FLOWTHENE grade selection, open-system use, glycol replacement and annual fluid testing.

Which grade should I choose?
Start from the minimum operating temperature, then compare viscosity, density, thermal conductivity, heat capacity, circuit pressure and open/closed configuration. Do not select solely from freezing point.
Can PF-10 to PF-40 be used in an open system?
The supplied datasheet lists an open-system range only for PF-50: −51°C to +110°C. Consult Geocon before any other open-system use.
Can FLOWTHENE replace glycol in an existing plant?
Potentially, but it is not a blind drain-and-fill substitution. Review metallurgy, elastomers, pump curve, pressure drop, expansion volume, cleaning and commissioning requirements.
Why is annual fluid testing recommended?
It tracks pH, reserve alkalinity, freeze point and inhibitor condition so concentration changes or corrosion-protection loss can be corrected early.
